Center Life
A typical day at Homestead Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.
After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.
Recreation
Homestead Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. We offer activities such as:
- Arts and crafts
- Cultural and social events
- Intramural sports
- Movies and videos
- Outdoor activities
- Sporting events
We also sponsor weekend trips to bowling alleys, movie theaters, area beaches, local special events, concerts, professional sports games, and other attractions located in surrounding area.
Student Government Association (SGA)
The Student Government Association (SGA) is the voice of our students and is very involved in the operation of the center.
Students have the opportunity to participate in SGA through elections that are held every six months. Elected positions include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Reporter, Sergeant-at-Arms, Residential Female Representative, Residential Male Representative, Non-Residential Female Representative, Non-Residential Male, Secretary, and the UDC Chairperson. There are also eight standing committees that are appointed by the Executive Committee.
Student Government Committees
Each committee is led by one Executive Committee member. Committees and departmental managers meet once a month. The standing committees are:
- Behavior Management Committee
- Community Relations Committee
- Diversity Committee
- Food Service Committee
- Health Services Committee
- Recreation Committee
- Safety Committee
- Welfare Committee
Safety
Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence, alcohol, and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
